As-Shaykh Al-Fadhil Ustaz Mohamad Hasbi bin Hassan
One of the respected Ulama of Singapore is our Teacher, as-Shaykh Al- Fadhil Ustaz Mohammad Hasbi bin Hassan. He is a scholar who is respected and revered by members of the society. He has contributed much to the dawah activities in Singapore by upholding various appointments, sacrificing both time and weath. In fact, all of his family members, especially his parents and siblings, are involved in dawah activities.
He received his early education in an English institution in Singapore. Thereafter he continued his religious studies at Madrasah Al-Junied AlIslamiah until the end 1977. After which he persued his studies atAl-Azhar University in 1978 until,by Allah’s leave, he received his first degree (B.A.) from the Faculty of Theology and Philosophy in 1982. In that same year he continued to pursue his Masters at Al-Azhar and Khahirah University in Egypt, however he was not able to continue.
He returned to Singapore at the end of 1985 and served in Madrasah Al-Junied as an ustaz and the Vice-Principal until 1996. In 1997, by Allah’s leave, he was given the opportunity to complete his (M.A.) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Alhamdulillah, he succeeded and received his masters in theology and Philosophy from that university in 2004.
As God had willed it, he served under PERGAS since 1986 as an Honourary Excutive Assistant, Honourary Excutive, Vice President dan President till today. He also served as an Honourary Member ofi Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS) from the year 1993 till 1997, also as a full member and allinace member of Jawatankuasa Fatwa Singapura from the year 1993 till now. He contributed as the Vice-Chairman for the RRG (Religious Rehabilitation Group). He is also the Vice-Chairman of the ARB (Asatizah Recognition Board). On April 2006, he was asked to lead Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah and he served as the Principal until the end of the contract in Feb 2008. He was also appointed the Khalifah Tariqah Ahmadiah Singapore in 2004 by Shaykh Ahmad Idris bin Muhammad al-Hassan (a great-grandson of the founder of Tariqah Ahmadiah Idrisiah) whose domicile is in Sudan.
All the above appointments and responsibilities were never asked for by himself, rather they were given to him on account of people’s trust in him.
